Guided Hike Kasteelspoort to Upper Cable Station

About 7 km / 4.5 miles one-way; Gain: 900 meters / 3 000 ft

  • Hike up, descend by cable car
  • More remote, quieter route.
  • Ascend to the Back Table. Explore historic dams and hidden valleys which in season are home to famous disas and rare frogs which during summer bask in fern-lined streams.
  • It takes an average 4 - 4.5 hours. Put aside 5-ish hours in total (or more if there is a long line to get on the cable car)
  • Remember return by cable is weather permiting.

Costs

Privately Guided Hike up Kasteelspoort (or another route of similar duration), cable car down.

1 person - R2600

This does not include the cable car tariff. At certain periods waiting in line for the cable car can be long. Early starts can help. Fast track tickets are available.

Be aware, please, that in poor weather the cable car may close. This could mean having to hike down, adding another couple of hours onto the excursion.

Back Table Twelve Apostles

These are quieter routes displaying a far wider range of the radical diversity Cape Town's mountain is famous for - in terms of views and flora, and sometimes fauna.

The Back table is the larger part of the mountain. There's a wider variety of routes than on the front-facing routes like India Venster and Plattelkip Gorge.

Up there you're often within sight of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans with views on clear days out to Cape Point. Once up there explore the historic reservoirs. On the dam wall itself view the access-restricted Disa Gorge.
